About Rankings
  • Based on Concept2 World Rankings data
  • Percentiles are age and weight-class adjusted
  • Rankings updated periodically - actual rank may vary

How Rankings Work

The percentile tables are derived from community-sourced data and Concept2 logbook submissions. A 50th percentile score means half of rowers in your age/gender group post a faster time. Keep in mind that logbook submitters tend to be more serious rowers, so the 50th percentile here represents a higher fitness level than the general population.

Understanding Percentile Context

The Concept2 ranking database includes millions of entries, but it skews toward committed rowers who track their scores. If you are new to rowing and score in the 25th percentile, that places you at roughly the 25th percentile of people who actively log erg workouts — which is still well above the general population. For gym rowers who row casually, any score that appears in the database is already above the majority of rowing machine users.

Setting Goals from Your Percentile

Use your current percentile as a baseline and aim for the next 10th percentile bracket as a realistic medium-term goal. Moving from the 50th to the 60th percentile requires meaningful but achievable training adaptations over 2–3 months. Moving from the 90th to the 95th requires significantly more specialised training and often takes 6–12 months. The gap in seconds between percentiles narrows as you approach the top, but the effort required to close that gap increases exponentially.
